Bridge Cafe is attempting something new: Bee Keeping!

On April 25 2010 with the guidance off Andrew Cote, president of the New York City Bee Keepers Association and co-founder of Bees Without Borders, have placed six bee hives on the roof of Bridge Cafe.

Our goal is three fold.

Firstly: To pollinate and help New York City flourish.
Secondly: To give Bees a safe environment to survive and prosper.
Thirdly: Hopefully our bees will reward us in kind with HONEY!

Bridge Cafe Roof-Top Honey!

If we are lucky and our bees work diligently we will be in the honey in the next six to eight weeks. Chef Joe Kunst is already developing recipes worthy of our bees efforts. Stay connected for updates and photos.

Bees Without Borders is a non for profit organization that’s mission is to:

Educate and train impoverished individuals and communities in beekeeping skills and the value of beekeeping for poverty alleviation.

At Bees Without Borders we:

Believe in teaching a person to make honey rather than giving away honey.

To that end:

  • We train local trainers to pass on the skills that we bring them.
  • Identify and assist beekeepers on a case by case basis, either through non-government organizations, private groups, beekeeping associations or individuals.
  • Give financial assistance, training resources and supplies to groups and associations so they can help their communities become self-sufficient.
  • Encourage people to eat local honey.  After all, there is nothing better.
